How Words Shape Our Journeys
March 11, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Singer-songwriter Crystal Goh and performance poet Marc Nair will talk about Reword, which lends voice to the stories of at-risk youth, and how the spoken-word and music project helps the latter regain their confidence. Crystal co-founded Diamonds On The Street, which brings together communities through music, drama and storytelling, while she was recovering from spasmodic dysphonia, a voice disorder. Marc will delve into his poetry and explore identity and social issues.
Reword is a spoken-word and music project presented by Words Go Round, Diamonds On The Street and Marc Nair. Through this pilot collaboration, 10 young people from Residence @ St, George’s – a joint community outreach of Methodist Welfare Services and the General Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service – will share hitherto unknown narratives. These will be performed as spoken-word texts and set to music in a private graduation ceremony.
Organised by the Singapore Writers Festival and supported by The Arts House.
