Dr. Ong Jin Teong who wrote Penang Heritage Food: Yesterday’s Recipes for Today’s Cook that won the Best Culinary History national award at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards has published a new cookbook, titled, Nonya Heritage Kitchen – Origins, Utensils and Recipes. The author will be at Kinokuniya Singapore Main Store on Saturday, 23rd July, 2.00 p.m. to promote this cookbook and conduct a food sampling segment to give foodies a tasty preview of some of the recipes covered in this book.

Dr. Ong Jin Teong was born and raised in a Penang nonya family. With his mother’s encouragement, he started cooking from an early age. A retired professor of electrical engineering, he has extensively researched on Penang and nonya cuisines, and is a much sought-after authority on these subjects. The author’s new cookbook brings together the stories of how popular food, cooking techniques, ingredients and utensils from these spheres of influences interact to give birth to nonya cuisine.
